By touching the creature afflicted, the priest employing the spell can permanently cure some forms of deafness.
The spell will automatically heal deafness caused by a magical deafness spell or the reverse of the clerical spell Cure Blindness or Deafness (or similar deafness-causing magical effects), regardless of how long ago it occured.
The chance of successfully curing deafness caused by physical damage to the auditory organs or ears is equal to 5% per rank and such damage must have occurred within the past (rank x rank) hours. At rank 22, the mage can heal auditory damage that occurred up to 10 years ago. Anything older than that, as well as the absence of auditory organs or a deafness birth defect requires a Regeneration spell. If the roll fails, the mage may try again, with a cumulative -15 to his chance of success (-15 to his second attempt, -30 to his third attempt, etc.). This penalty applies to his chance to heal the damage, not to his cast chance with the spell. |
