Subject:Surge Returns
Surge returns to ROCK alone about 4 hours after he departed with Vamperina. He reaches the outer airlock and cycles through. He looks for Eli and Curt and eventually finds them together, with Eli showing Curt some of the basics of shipboard life.

CURT: "I have been searching the ship in my free time, and have come across the following things that are of interest."

>Your search of the Bridge includes opening the hatch in the middle of
>the deck (floor). It leads down 5 meters to another hatch. Later, when
>you search the engineering area and open the hatch in the overhead
>(ceiling), you peer up and see that it goes up 5 meters to another
>hatch. Basically this is a fast way to get back and forth from the
>bridge to engineering. The hatches are airtight.
>
>When you search stateroom one, you find that the carpeting in here is
>sectioned and each 1m x 1m piece can be snapped up individually,
>presumably for easy cleaning and replacement of soiled sections. As
>part of your search, you unsnap each section of carpet to look
>underneath. Under a couple of sections is a concealed door in the deck
>that looks like it is the door to a safe that has been built into the
>floor. There is a hinged, glass alloy panel that gives access to the
>electronic keypad and the handle for opening the safe door. The safe is
>currently locked.
>
>Further search of stateroom one finds some, but not a lot of, personal
>effects for a man and woman who probably once lived here. Stateroom two
>is similar with some, but not many, personal effects for the girl who is
>currently in the cold sleep chamber in the middle of stateroom two.
>
>By the end of January, you have finished your search and found nothing
>else.

NOBODY: Eli will add the information to the reports for the Schedule, and include the new sites for further inspection at appropriate priority levels. Eli will set it up so that Curt can file such reports for himself, and show Curt how it is done.

NOBODY: Eli will update Surge on Eli's plans for the full repair, inventory, and survey of the Rock and Pebble:

NOBODY: Eli will spend approximately 4 hours acclimating Curt, then Eli will get 4 hours of rest himself After that, Eli will set himself on a 8/4 (8 on, 4 off) schedule of survey, inventory, and repair of the ship. As a chief engineer, Eli plans to set up a schedule for getting the Rock and Pebble fully ready for travel. In that schedule he is incorporating training for Curt (who has little familiarity with safe living in space) and drills, initially obvious and at reasonable times, for dealing with various emergencies.

NOBODY: Eli will ask Surge if he is willing to participate. If Surge is willing, thenEli will welcome his input and assistance. I will go with the assumption that Surge is willing, based on a previous email by Marty.

NOBODY: Eli and Surge will have done a quick walkthrough, that should only have taken a half day, to see if there were any emergency priority items.

NOBODY: The following is Eli's follow-up exam (but not the full survey/inventory)of the Rock and Pebble, this is so he can set up a schedule and assign priorities.

So:
Map 1 of the Rock, starting upper left hand corner:
Round area: 5 hours
Hall below round area: .5
Long Hallway/common area: 2.75
Stateroom 4: 1
Elevator: 1
Storage: 1
Stateroom 3: 1
Stateroom 2: 1
Stateroom 1: 3
Long area above and to right of Elevator: 2
Big area: 8
Hallway to "Up": .5
Hallway to room w/ octagonal table: .25
Octag. Table room: 2.25
TOTAL: 29.25
Map 2 of the Rock, starting in Upper Left:
Circle: 5
Airlock: .25
Room and hall off of airlock: 2.75
Elevator: 1
Big Open room (engine room?): 26
EVA supply: 1
Airlock and adjoining: 2
TOTAL: 37 hours

NOBODY: Assume another 10 hours to go over the Pebble. Assume 100 hours total for initial survey (this covers things like the ship exterior, fuel tanks, ductwork, etc., at approximately 12 work hours (allowing for 8 hours rest, 4 hours misc. which includes meals, hygiene, Curt's training, drills, documenting findings, and other sundry) available to this project daily. 8.5 work days. 1 day for setting up the schedule. 10 work days total to complete quick survey and set up maintenance schedule.

23 rolls for individual areas.
1 roll for the Pebble.
1 roll for Miscellaneous.
25 rolls total.

NOBODY: Before he begins the full survey/inventory, Eli wants to repair the two damaged hatches. For this he will request Surge's assistance. Eli has a Mechanics roll of 14-. If Surge is better at mechanics, then Eli will let Surge lead the repair of the hatches while Eli assists. This would also be a good one to have Curt's strength for assistance, plus he should find it very educational. The hatch repairs are for the wardroom at a -1, and the turret at a -0.

NOBODY: Steve can we get some positive modifiers for having two of us working on the hatches?

GM: All those with Mechanics skill can send me rolls. The person with the highest skill is the primary mechanic. Those assisting give the primary a +1 to his roll for every 2 by which they make their roll.

GM: By the end of January, Eli has not found anything out of the ordinary in his searching.

NOBODY: Once repairs of the hatches have been completed as best as possible Eli will set up the following schedule for the full survey/inventory:

Map 1 of the Rock, starting upper left hand corner:
Pebble docking bay (combined upper and lower areas): 6 days (1 day = an 24 hour period)
Upper DB Airlock: 1
Main Passage: .5
Sitting Area: 1
Stateroom 4: 1
Elevator: 1
Storage: 2
Stateroom 3: 1
Stateroom 2: 1
Stateroom 1: 2
Avionics: 10 (This will primarily be Surge's area to work. Eli is willing to assist as needed.)
Bridge: 10
Gun Shaft: 1
Turret: 2 (Unfortunately we cannot test fire or fully calibrate the weapon without giving our position away, so some of the work will have to be done later)
Hallway to Wardroom: .25
Wardroom: 4
TOTAL: 43.75 days of work. Divided by 2.5 (Surge doesn't sleep) for having Eli and Surge performing the work
17.5 days actual.

Map 2 of the Rock, starting in Upper Left:
Lower DB Airlock: 1 day
Cargo Area: 10
Elevator: 1
Engine Room: 25
EVA supply: 4
Airlock and adjoining: 2
TOTAL: 43 days of work. Divided by 2.5 (Surge doesn't sleep) for having Eli and Surge performing the work
17.2 days actual.

NOBODY: Approximately 35 days for full survey/inventory of obvious interior areas with Eli and Surge both working.

NOBODY: Assume another 10 days to go over the Pebble.

NOBODY: Assume 15 days total for miscelleanous survey (this covers things like the ship exterior, fuel tanks, ductwork, etc., at approximately 12 work hours (allowing for 8 hours rest, 4 hours misc. which includes meals, hygiene, Curt's training, drills, documenting findings, writing reports to the schedule and other sundry...) available to this project daily.

NOBODY: Eli estimates 60 days of work + 5 days.
22 rolls for individual areas.
1 roll for the Pebble.
1 roll for Miscellaneous.
24 rolls total for Eli and Surge each, and probably 12 for Curt if he is willing to stick around and help.

NOBODY: Since Surge has an affinity towards electronics and computational devices, Eli will set up the schedule with this in mind. Eli would like Surge to pay especially close attention to the computers and their programming as they will be necessary for keeping us from being turned inside-out in jump. Plus we need to be aware of any hidden security setups that the previous owners might have left behind.

NOBODY: Once Surge has fully accessed all of the ship records, including personal records if any, Eli will speed-read his way through them, memorizing them, looking for information on the history of the ship, and the previous owners, especially the young girl in cold sleep. Eli will then file an abbreviated report, to the schedule, for all members to read at their leisure.

NOBODY: One of the things that Eli will watch for is laser communications relays (tech 10+ by the book). If we have any, then we can set up a couple of relay points and use laser communications for very tight beam and secure communications with the pod.
