Subject:Jack Alone in Circle City
With Curt, Eli and Surge all headed up into space with Vamperina, Jack has no need for the house. However, since rent is already paid through the end of February, he has time before he needs to move. He gives notice to the landlord that he will move at the end of February. By the end of February, Jack can find a small Startown apartment that he can move into for Cr300 per month, plus Cr250 for security deposit. The apartment is already furnished.

He also starts looking for possible sources to buy ore from the asteroid mining operation.

Keith, to find a possible buyer, send me a Streetwise roll after one week of looking. Because there are a limited number of possible buyers for black market ore, you can get a second roll two weeks later at -1, a third roll three weeks after that at -2, etc. So here is the progression.

01/28/6567 - Roll at -0
02/14/6567 - Roll at -1
03/07/6567 - Roll at -2
04/07/6567 - Roll at -3
05/14/6567 - Roll at -4
06/28/6567 - Roll at -5
08/21/6567 - Roll at -6
10/21/6567 - Roll at -7
etc.

Possible buyers have a Trading roll of 12 + (d6 - 1). Thus, if I roll a 3, it means they have a 14 or less Trading roll.

Base price is Cr1250 per ton. Jack and Buyer both make trading rolls. Whoever makes it by the most modifies the base price by Cr25 in their favor for each point of difference. For example, if Jack made his roll by 5, and the buyer made his by 3, Jack would add Cr50 to the base price.

Go ahead and send me the January roll now. Then, assuming you are successful, send me a trading roll to find out a ball park price based on specific assumptions that Vamperina told you about the ore. Obviously an exact price can't be negotiated until you have ore ready to sell but, if all of the information that Vamperina gave you about the ore is correct, and you and the potential buyer negotiate in good faith, then the actual price should be pretty close to the estimated price that you work out.

01/28/6567 - Jack needed a 15 or less to find a buyer and rolled a 9. His Trading roll is 15 or less and he rolled a 15. Buyer has 14- Trading and rolled a 7. Negotiated price is Cr1075 per ton.

In late January, you find a possible buyer for the ore. After some negotiation, and assuming the ore is as you say it is, he tells you that he would buy it for Cr1075 per ton.

02/14/6567 - Jack needed a 14 or less to find a buyer and rolled a 11. His Trading roll is 15 or less and he rolled a 6. Buyer has a 16- Trading and rolled a 13.

In mid February, you find another possible buyer for the ore. After some negotiation, and assuming the ore is as you say it is, he tells you that he would buy it for Cr1400 per ton.

03/07/6567 - Jack needed a 13 or less to find a buyer and rolled a 13. His Trading roll is 15 or less and he rolled a 10. Buyer has a 15- Trading and rolled a 4.

In early March, you find another possible buyer for the ore. After some negotiation, and assuming the ore is as you say it is, he tells you that he would buy it for Cr1100 per ton.

04/07/6567 - Jack did not find a potential buyer

05/14/6567 - Jack needed a 11 or less to find a buyer and rolled a 8. His Trading roll is 15 or less and he rolled a 8. Buyer has a 13- Trading and rolled a 13.

In mid May, you find another possible buyer for the ore. After some negotiation, and assuming the ore is as you say it is, he tells you that he would buy it for Cr1425 per ton.

GM: One thing that I wanted to be clear on is that the negotiated price for the ore assumes that you will deliver the ore to the buyer in Circle City. If you need to make alternative arrangements with the buyer where they will need to pick up the ore, then that will affect the price. It doesn't mean they won't do it, it just means that the price will be less.

When you check with Serene about continuing radio contact with the group, you learn that the February contact is scheduled to be the last since the group will have reached their 90,000 kg quota. However, you are able to negotiate a new deal with Emma Flort that will keep the radio communications going ... for a price. The end of the month communication can continue for Cr30, which includes 5 minutes of communication. If the conversation goes beyond that, the cost increase by Cr5 per minute over 5, rounded up.

JACK: That's acceptable, I will have to tell the group in the end of February communique.

In addition, you can communicate with the group at any other time during the month, but must give Serene 24 hours notice and the cost is Cr50 for 5 minutes, plus Cr5 per minute after 5, rounded up.

JACK: Good to know.

Let me know if you want to keep up the communications. The end of February communication will still happen normally.

JACK: Ok. I don't let on to Serene that I have another way to contact them obviously, so I don't let on that I don't expect to use the emergency contact procedures, I will be appreciative that they thought to make such arrangements, just in case.

GM: Net salary for Feb is Cr1140.

JACK: Admittedly a bad month to bring this up (should have been early in the month while my January numbers were still good) but I've been there a year now. Does this mean an automatic Performance Review and subsequent increase or do I have to ask for one? Christmas bonus?

GM: I hadn't thought of that. Let's do it this way. Send me a die roll and compare it to the following table (overall level can't be used as this is just a luck roll for how well Jan's did in the past year):

12+ - No bonus
11 - Cr250 bonus
10 - Cr400 bonus
9 - Cr600 bonus
8 - Cr850 bonus
7 - Cr1150 bonus
6 - Cr1500 bonus
5 - Cr1900 bonus
4 - Cr2350 bonus
3 - Cr3000 bonus

For the sake of simplicity, I'll assume that the amount listed is after taxes.

JACK: This does mean that I can now buy 2 more vacc suits at the discount if we need them. I am not going to until our plans are a bit firmer though. As far as I can remember I'm the only one left that needs a suit, and that only marginally, while Surge needs one for "cover" reasons. In all this time was there ever a suit that came into the shop with a broken and irreparable seal that would not be visible to an onlooker? Remember Surge doesn't need the suit to work, just to look right. I'd hope I could pick up a suit like that for a song.

GM: Yes you can buy 2 more vacc suits at a discount. No you did not have the opportunity to buy a broken vacc suit. Vacc suits are traded in, and many of those trade-ins are non-functioning, but the broken vacc suits are required by law to be completely refurbished before they can be resold. If a vacc suit is considered too damaged to be refurbished, it is still sold to a refurbishing factory where it is scavenged for parts.

GM: For Surge you could always just get one of the cheaper models.
