Subject:Jeffton
After finally getting some sleep, the team is ready to face the day. It starts out with Menden Genser wanting to take a look at what the team has to sell with regard to weapons.

GM: As I understand it, the team has the following items that they are offering for sale (from turn 5.0):

2 handguns
1 rifle
1 light assault weapon
1 heavy assault weapon
700 rounds of ammunition
2 laster pistols (partially charged from the hissers)
3 sets of body armor

Menden looks with interest at the rifle, light assault weapon and heavy assault weapon and asks what you want for each. Peter gets the impression that he would like to buy one of them, along with ammunition and will buy whichever one he can afford.

All of the off duty guards also look with interest at the items. Most are just looking but two of them look like they might be interested in buying something. Peter gets the impression that, with the right armor and weapons, they might decide to become adventurers instead of guards. They would like to know what you want for the handguns (with ammo) and the body armor.

PETER: {Okay Rosin, here's where we need your local expertise. What's the right price range for what we have? I don't want to rake them over the coals, but I also don't want to look like some rube.}

PETER (OOC): Peter has Trading (14-), so once he has a starting point for prices, he should do okay. His intention is to drive a hard but fair bargain. But he also wants to keep up the appearance that we're adventurers who are trying to make money. We can probably expect good prices for this stuff in Hawkshorn (especially given that it's in pristine condition). I don't want to sell it for much less than we'd get there, or it'll look funny. I'm not sure how much the locals can afford the big city prices, but there you have it. I'd certainly entertain the idea of some barter as well.

ROSIN: Rosin offers her opinions of what the groups merchandise is worth. Unfortunately for the locals, the groups equipment was some of the finest that Rosin had ever seen, so her estimates of value were high.

ERICT: Erict has nothing to add to any of what's been going on lately, just wanted to say I'm back and caught up with previous emails. He's still pretty wiped out from his overexertion healing that last prisoner, but slowly gets stronger as the hours pass. He's not overly quiet, or withdrawn, even seems relatively happy that he saved the guy's life, he just doesn't waste a lot of energy on chatting or anything else for now...

PETER (OOC): When Erict is more recovered, Peter will want to have a private chat with him about what went on in the hive. Let me know when would be a good time for that.

GM: Here are what Rosin would consider to be realistic prices for the equipment you plan to sell (gr = grams of gold or silver - both have equal value):

2 handguns (50 gr each with no ammo)
1 rifle (150 gr with no ammo)
1 light assault weapon (300 gr with no ammo)
1 heavy assault weapon (400 gr with no ammo)
2 laster pistols (partially charged from the hissers) (30 gr each)
3 sets of body armor (250 gr each)
700 rounds of ammunition (see below)

GM: I'm going to assume you have the following split for ammo
Handgun - 200 rounds (5 rounds per gr)
Rifle/LAW - 300 rounds (3 rounds per gr)
HAW - 200 rounds (2 rounds per gr)

GM: Rosin thinks that if you sold the items in Hawkshorn, these are about the prices you would get, but it could be higher or lower depending on current supply and demand. If you wanted to sell them to one of the stores in Hawkshorn, you would almost certainly get less as they would have to make a profit as well, probably about 10 to 20 percent less.

PETER (GM): I never got an answer to my previous question - what's the status of my language skills? I'm doing my post assuming a reasonable level of fluency. If I don't have that, assume it's less eloquent, but interpspersed with telepathic explanations.

GM: I thought I had answered it but it guess not. Yes Peter can buy another point with the language.

PETER: Laying out their wares on a few tables in the Jeffton main hall, Peter shows them off to Mayor Frey, Menden Genser, and anyone else the mayor thought was appropriate to include. "Feel free to take a look. It's all in excellent condition - except for the laser pistols. Those were a separate find. All prices are in grams of gold or silver. The guns are fifty, one-fifty, three hundred, and four hundred." He gestures at each in turn. "We'll let the laser pistols go for thirty - they both only have a partial charge. Ammo is five for a gram, three for a gram, and two for a gram," he taps each of the three open ammo cases. We'll let the armor go for two-fifty each."

PETER: "We'll give a ten percent discount to any sales to the village of Jeffton if you'll grant us the option to settle here. I'm not sure if any of us are even likely to take you up on the option, but you never can tell where our paths will lead. At some point we'll want to retire, and when that happens, I want to make sure we have options."

PETER: "I know it's expensive," Peter adds. "But this is good quality stuff. And we went through a lot to get it. We need to get a good return on it." He gives a look around to the gathered men. "We'd prefer gold or silver," he continues. "But we'll also entertain any offer of barter. I can't make any guarantees on that. But we'll definitely listen to and consider any opportunity for a sale."

PETER (OOC): I'm thinking a bird in the hand is always good. I doubt very much they have the money to clean us out, so we'll have something to bring with us to Hawkshorn. As for trades, it might well be they have something useful to us and less so for them - another key card, for example, or maybe an old data crystal or the like. We can play that by ear. The discount was another way to ingratiate ourselves here. If we've got the option to settle, that transforms us from adventurers-passing-through to potential settlers. Suddenly we become 'us' not 'them.' Could be useful in the future.

Quite a few people look over the equipment that the group has to sell. Menden is interested in the light assault weapon and asks if you'll accept 250 for it and 100 rounds of ammo (basically he is offering 250 grams for 400 grams worth of merchandise). This is fairly obviously an opening barter to see if your prices are firm or if you are willing to barter. The two guards who want to be adventurers watch with interest.

GM: Let me know if your prices are firm or if you are willing to barter. Rosin knows that bartering is the norm but Menden seems to understand that your culture may be different in this regard and is testing the waters.
