Expedition to Zhodane
ROCK and PEBBLE
Campaign:Black Moon
Adventure Name:Expedition to Zhodane
Adventure Topic:ROCK and PEBBLE
Use the Expedition to Zhodane module for this adventure. The ships are designed in the Notes Ship Editor. PEBBLE is outfitted with a "psionic shield" that gives all occupants 20 points of mental defense. This can be added to any personal mental defense the occupant already has against attacks that originate from outside the ship.

Fuel
ROCK's fuel tanks can hold 90 tons of hydrogen.

Searching ROCK
If you decide to search ROCK, let me know how much time you are spending in searching each room and then send me a PER roll for each room you search. You are better off using Daggerford for this. For example, you can send me 5 rolls and then, in the body of the message (which Daggerford allows, but Irony doesn't) you can put something like:

1. Bridge, 1 hour
2. Stateroom 1, 5 minutes
3. Stateroom 2, 5 minutes
4. Wardroom, 1 minute
5. Engine Room, 1 hour

GM: That way I apply your first roll to the Bridge, your second to Stateroom 1, etc.

..........

There are a two things that might be found when searching ROCK.

1. Owner's Safe. In the floor of stateroom 1, under a snap-down carpet, is an electronic safe. Finding it requires a PER roll at -3 unless the searcher specifically says that they are searching under the carpeting. Opening the safe without the key code requires proper tools, time, and Lockpicking skill. With an electronic lockpick toolkit, and one hour, the Lockpicking roll is at -4. With an electronics toolkit (instead of a proper lockpick toolkit) there is a further -3 penalty (-7 total). Inside the safe, which is 120 cm long, by 40 cm wide, by 30 cm deep, is a Lee Enfield AS7 Shotgun, 10 boxes of 20 rounds each (200 rounds total) for the shotgun, Cr43,000 in cash and a starmap of the Chronor subsector with Zeycude clearly marked as a destination.

2. ROCK's Second Level. If someone searchs the shaft that runs between the bridge and engineering, and makes a PER roll at -3, they will find a secret panel. The shaft between the bridge and engineering is a total of 5 meters long. About halfway down is the secret panel, which looks just like any other riveted panel in the shaft except that the rivets are false and the panel is actually held in place by external hinges and a bolting mechanism. Two of the rivets will be found to push in and, if pushed simultaneously, will open the hatch and reveal a small closet. A door in the closet leads out to a hallway giving access to the rest of the second level of ROCK.

Immediate Maintenance
The only maintenance issues that require immediate attention are the two hatch covers, which can both be fixed with parts available onboard. Fixing the Wardroom hatch requires a Mechanics roll at -1 while fixing the Gun Turret hatch requires a Mechanics roll with no penalty.

In addition other scheduled maintenance on systems that have not been attended to for the years that ROCK sat in orbit around Black Moon will cost Cr15,000. Not attending to these may not hamper the ship from leaving Black Moon, but the ship will gain an activation roll of 15 or less, which will decline at a rate of one per year (14-, 13-, etc.) that maintenance is not done.

Yearly Upkeep
The yearly maintenance cost for ROCK is Cr48,000 which breaks down to a monthly cost of Cr4000. This represents the cost to fix and replace broken and aging equipment. This amount can be modified by successful Starship Engineering, Mechanics and Electronics rolls, as indicated below. If two people have the appropriate skills, then determine who will be the "primary" and who will be the secondary. If more than two people have the appropriate skills, then use only the best of the secondary's rolls to modify the primary's roll. For every two points the secondary makes their roll, add one to the skill level of the secondary.

Starship Engineering Skill - For every point by which the skill is made, subtract Cr200 from the cost. If a natural 3 is rolled (by the primary only), subtract an additional Cr500.

Electronics Skill - For every point by which the skill is made, subtract Cr50 from the cost. If a natural 3 is rolled (by the primary only), subtract an additional Cr100.

Mechanics Skill - For every point by which the skill is made, subtract Cr50 from the cost. If a natural 3 is rolled (by the primary only), subtract an additional Cr100.

The rolls are made every month. If the ship is idle for a given month, add 5 to starship engineering skill. Note that a negative cost means no cost for that month.

Nautical References
When talking about ROCK, or any spaceship, I will be using nautical terms. The following is a simple reference of nautical terms and their non-nautical equivalents. I will add to it as I use new terms.

Deck - floor
Overhead - ceiling
Bulkhead - wall
Hatch - door, could be in the deck, overhead or bulkhead
Head - toilet
Galley - kitchen
Compartment - room
Ladder - staircase
Rack - bed, ex: "I'm tired. I'm gonna hit the rack."
Bow - forward end of the ship
Stern - back end of the ship
Port - left side of the ship as you are facing the bow
Starboard - right side of the ship as you are facing the bow

Battle Stations
Vamperina - Pilot (bridge)
Surge - Astrogator (bridge)
Max - Radio and Sensor Ops (bridge)
Michael - Engineer (engineering)
Jack - After-Steering Backup Pilot (engineering)
Curt - Plasma Beam (gun turret)
Midnight - Rocket Launcher (gun turret)
Chase - General Duty (engineering)

Refueling Stations - Gas Giant Skimming
Vamperina - Pilot (PEBBLE)
Michael - Engineer (engineering)
Max - Radio and Sensor Ops (bridge)
* Jack - Pilot (ROCK)
* Curt - Weapons (alternates with Midnight)
* Midnight - Weapons (alternates with Curt)
* Surge - Fuel Station (engineering)
* Chase - General Duty (engineering)

* = optional

PEBBLE
Pebble is a shuttle craft that is capable of planetary landings, fuel skimming, and combat.

Heights
The heights of the overheads through most of ROCK is 7'. Exceptions are passageways (6.6"), the Bridge (10'), the 2nd level Rec Room (8'), the cargo hold (12') and the engine room (varies but with the maze of ladders and catwalks that snake over the engines and other systems, the height is often less than 6').

On PEBBLE, the height of the cargo hold and airlock is 6'6". The cockpit varies from 5'6 near the pilot's seat to 6' near the aft bulkhead.

Stateroom Assignments
Level 1
Stateroom 1 - Vamperina
Stateroom 2 - Jack and Surge
Stateroom 3 - Aeria
Stateroom 4 - Kobi and Scout

Level 2 (hidden level)
Stateroom 5 - Michael and Midnight
Stateroom 6 - Chase and Curt
Passenger Suite - Max

Stateroom 1 is set up with remote monitors from the bridge. Before departing the team, Eli set up stateroom 5 with remote monitors from the engine room. Thus it makes sense that Vamperina is in stateroom 1 and Michael is in stateroom 5. Since Jack has indicated that he wants to wait a week or so before showing the newcomers the hidden level, then they need to be berthed on level 1. Neither Curt nor Surge ever sleep so they just need a place to stow their gear. All of the staterooms except stateroom 1 have two bunks. Stateroom 1 and the passenger suite have queen-sized beds.
