Rule Name:Fuel Usage
For the most part, the rules outlined in Star Hero are used to create starships. The exceptions have to do with fuel and FTL Engines.

Fuel
In the Star Hero rules, it is assumed that starships have unlimited fuel. In other words, fuel is never in issue. That is not going to be the case. Starships use hydrogen for power. Hydrogen is generally available for free by "skimming" gas giants or oceans. By default a ship can hold 10 tons of fuel per 3 BODY (excluding BODY that does not increase mass). Thus, a ship with 20 BODY can hold 70 tons of fuel. This amount can be increased by 1 ton per 2 points spent on FUEL.

FTL Engines
Star Hero has FTL travel costing 10 points for 1 LY/day, with 2x speed for every additional 5 points. 1 LY per day is still going to cost 10 points, but increased speed will cost 5 points per additional LY per day. Thus, 3 LY/day will cost a total of 20 points. The maximum speed that current technology allows for off-the-shelf engines, is 5 LY/day.

Jumps
Ship movement through space is made in "jumps". The astrogator plots a course from one point to another, that is within the jump range of the FTL engines, and the pilots makes the jump. Jumps are measured in parsecs (1 parsec = 3.2 LY). By purchasing FTL travel, the ship automatically has Jump-1. That means that the ship can only move 1 parsec per jump. Each additional level of Jump costs 5 points. Thus, Jump-3 would cost 10 points. Ships use 30 tons of fuel per jump.

Examples

Gray Ace - 100 tons of fuel, 1 LY/day, Jump-1
Each jump is one parsec (jump-1). It takes 3.2 days per jump (a parsec is 3.2 LY and the ship travels at 1 LY/day). The ship can make a maximum of 3 jumps, for a total distance of 9.6 light years, before having to refuel (1 jump uses 30 tons of fuel).

Nimble Lighter - 60 tons of fuel, 3 LY/day, Jump-2
Each jump is two parsecs (jump-2). It takes 2.1 days per jump (two parsecs is 6.4 LY and the ship travels at 3 LY/day). The ship can make a maximum of 2 jumps, for a total distance of 12.8 light years, before having to refuel (1 jump uses 30 tons of fuel).

Far Trader - 120 tons of fuel, 1 LY/day, Jump-4
Each jump is four parsecs (jump-4). It takes 12.8 days per jump (four parsecs is 12.8 LY and the ship travels at 1 LY/day). The ship can make a maximum of 4 jumps, for a total distance of 51.2 light years, before having to refuel (1 jump uses 30 tons of fuel).
