It also requires a compatible optical system, either built-in to a combat helmet, sunglasses, contact lens, cybernetic eyes or the like. A basic set of goggles or sunglasses can be bought for about Cr200.
The smartgun link itself is a small targeting computer about the size of a pack of cigarettes. It can be carried in a pocket or work on the belt. The unit generally links to the both the weapon and the optical system by extremely short range RF which negates the need for wires to transfer the signal. However, some users perfer the fiber cables as they are not susceptible to radio interference (either incidental or deliberate). The unit uses a camera mounted on the weapon to show where the weapon is pointed at all times. This information is displayed in the optical system either in the foreground or as a sidebar. In addition to allowing the user to accurately fire his weapon without physically moving his head to look, the targeting computer also grants the user a +2 OCV. |
